The Success Journey

Dr Javad Parvizi is natively from Azerbaijan, Iran, he lived there until the age of 16 and then moved to continue his education in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Switzerland.

After completing medical school in the UK, Dr. Parvizi embarked on a four-year surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery in Great Britain. He then ventured to the United States in 1995, where he pursued a Research Fellowship in Molecular Biology, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency, both at Mayo Clinic. Subsequently, he undertook a fellowship in Switzerland, focusing on the management of hip disorders in young adults, during which he trained under the mentorship of Professor Reinhold Ganz at the Inselspital in Bern. In 2003, Dr. Parvizi joined the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and held the position of James Edward Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine until September 2023. after that he has assumed the role of Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Acibadem University in Istanbul, boasting an impressive career spanning over 25 years in surgery and research. His extensive experience includes conducting more than 10,000 surgical procedures, with a notable expertise in performing over 1,000 hip joint preservation surgeries. Dr. Parvizi has earned worldwide recognition for his pioneering work in the management of periprosthetic joint infection and venous thromboembolism.

Dr. Parvizi’s leadership extends to his roles as president of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (2013), president of the Eastern Orthopedic Association (2018), president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (2023) and his participation on the boards of various prestigious organizations. He is also the co-founder of the International Consensus Group, a global assembly of experts from 190 countries that convened in Philadelphia in 2013 and 2018 to produce a 2000-page compendium considered the definitive resource on orthopedic infections.

In addition to his medical endeavors, Dr. Parvizi is the founder and CEO of Parvizi Surgical Innovation (PSI) LLC, a highly successful incubator and accelerator renowned for developing groundbreaking healthcare products that enhance patient care.

Dr. Parvizi’s dedication to education is exemplified by his training of over 2,000 research and clinical fellows and residents throughout his career. He continues to travel extensively, having visited more than 170 countries to deliver lectures and share his knowledge. His contributions have earned him honorary memberships in numerous global organizations.

His commitment to excellence remains unwavering as he embarks on a new chapter at Acibadem University, where he recently co-founded the International Joint Center (IJC) at Acibadem Hospital. In this role, he will continue to provide surgical care to patients from around the world, while simultaneously advancing his clinical, research, and educational pursuits.

As a researcher and surgeon:

his areas of interest include first periprosthetic joint infection, second hip pain in young adults in addition prevention of thromboembolic disease too. He has published near 1000 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 30 textbooks, and over 200 book chapters. also received over 50 awards and honors from international scientific societies around the globe because of his surgical and research activities.

to give lectures related to his area of expertise and has been given the honorary membership of numerous societies around the world. also served as the president of Musculoskeletal Infection Society (2013), Eastern Orthopedic Association (2018) and holds positions on the board of numerous organizations and societies. further more, He was elected in 2023 as president of American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
